When did you know you wanted to be a designer?
Fashion has always been a part of my life and a daily concern. I have no recollection of it being otherwise or having some other career. I started sketching in my early years when all my classmates used to play.

What do you love most about your job?
What I like the most is the early stages of the collection, when I am sitting entire days with my team with a lot of ideas, suggestions, details, fabric samples, embroidery swatches, color palettes — basically the brainstorming phase. It is a whole world with no rules where I let my imagination go to the maximum — creating pieces reflecting my own persona. For me, it is heaven!

What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting out in the fashion industry?
First, they should be passionate for this job to give it their best. They should find their own style, own inspiration, and stay true to their vision. They will inevitably get frustrated and upset and will probably question themselves along the way. It is a tough road where they will face fierce competition and comparable talent. One needs to be patient and work carefully. Only perseverance will compensate those who want to succeed in the fashion industry.

How did your career start and what are some things you’ve learned?
It all started with a passion and a sense of creativity that I nurtured with a lot of research, travel, maturity and many, many inspirations. I learned to be perseverant and patient and most of all I learned that if you set a goal/aim, you always get it at the end. If I had to re-start I would do it all over again — exactly like it happened.

How is it like to get ready for Haute Couture?
Couture is a place where experimentation and challenge get involved; it is almost like a playground of creativity where I can show my ideas that truly defines my personality and reflects my state of mind. It is a very long process that may take more than 300 hours of work between creation and production for one look — and we show usually 45. Sometimes, spectacular gowns take 1,000 hours. Beside the collection, we work on the production, casting, fitting, music, etc.

What inspires you to do what you do and what inspires you to keep doing it?
What keeps me going is my passion and my lust for beauty! All the Masters in Fashion like Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Coco Chanel — whose work were so influential in creating timeless tendencies with an impact on the fashion world, inspire me.
There are so many inspirations and so many references! I can be inspired by a movie, a book, a show, music or a sculpture. A smiling face, changing seasons, sunset, dawn, a detail in a magazine or when touching a fabric. Many women inspire me, their gestures, the way they walk, talk, and move.
