Formal wear extraordinaire, Tadashi Shoji designed a collection of pure elegance with a far-away feel for FW13. Lace and wispy fabrics made-up a line that looked regal and expensive, in a way that remained modest. High necklines and long sleeves kept the body covered. A new trend for evening, now you can stay warm and fashionable in those drafty evening hours with many long sleeved gown options this season. Velvet is certainly the most luxurious, but if you prefer not to dwell in the trends of the 1900’s, sheer lace sleeves will keep you on trend while still feeling sexy.

Despite an abundance of lace, the collection was quite heavy. Combined with velvet, layered over neoprene and a rich, dark color palette make this romantic fabric seem substantial. Tiered gowns might remind of us of prom dresses from the 80’s, but these tiered versions have Russian royalty written all over them. Tousled hair pulled back at the nape of the neck brought to mind royal party goers, whose hair has fallen from its perfect state by the end of the night. Large ornate earrings are just the touch to turn modest gowns into an ensemble more appropriate for an evening affair. In an age where skin is in, Tadashi Shoji proves that even a collection heavy on the fabric can be hot.
