It was a cold, but beautiful night on January 21st and I was thrilled for the opportunity to attend the official Inauguration Ball.
Despite the chilly weather, Washington turned out en masse for the spectacular event held at the Washington Convention Center. While serenaded by Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, and Stevie Wonder among many others, we strolled about and took great shots of some of the fabulous fashion.
True to form, DC trended to classic luxury. Ralph Lauren’s gorgeous curve hugging asymmetrical gown made an appearance at multiple balls. Nicole Miller was also a very popular choice. We noticed several incarnations of gowns with her trademark ruching combined with exquisite fabric and tailoring. My choice for the evening, a spectacular red strapless Bagdley Mischka gown with dramatic bodice detail, was spotted in a fabulous gold lame. Although most silhouettes were timeless classics, there was an abundance of color: blue, red, gold, silver, green and yellow all were well represented.
Having attended several black tie functions in DC over the years I was struck on this very special occasion by the attention that was given to tailoring, fit, and accessories. It was clear by the way everyone was turned out that special effort had been taken to ensure a high level of fabulousness. There was such a celebratory feeling to the evening, which was made so much more special by the appearance of the First Couple. It made such an impression on me how the attendees rose to the occasion and truly used fashion to display and complement the joy of the occasion.
It was a truly beautiful evening.
