Burberry Prorsum’s S/S 2013 collection definitely had a bright start with crisp whites and dazzling metallic silks and leathers. Whether if it was cropped, full length, or an added detail to the classic trench, capes were all over the Burberry runway. Full length and trench coat additions were standalone pieces, while cropped versions stood atop dresses. No one will have to wonder “what’s up her sleeve” this year as voluminous sleeves continue to be a trend into Spring. Corseted coats and cropped bombers also reigned supreme on the runway. Corset detailing were not only on the jackets, but could been seen on tops and in corseted seamed dresses and skirts. Burberry is always at the forefront of outwear trends; so buy your capes now ladies, I have a feeling this style will be in fashion for seasons to come.
A transition of four color schemes could be seen throughout the show. Whites and metallic pink and copper, transitioned into vibrant greens, reds, blues and metallic purples, which turned into muted shades of tan, mauve and gold, and ended with forest greens, holiday reds and ink blot blues. Fabric selections were luxurious. Cotton sateen on jackets and metallic leather on corset detailed trench coats and dresses. Metallic silks were perfect for skirts and dresses that flowed nicely over the body. Satin lent more structure to elegant tops and skirts. I am a huge fan of the new metallic leather dresses and trench coats. With corset detailing a la Herve Leger, Burberry stays fresh and keeps its youthful audience wondering “what’s to come next year”. Burberry may be classic but they know how to keep the market begging for more as they continue to bring new things to the table.
The sunglasses and red lips brought the anonymity of a socialite and the sex appeal of a Hollywood star. Satchels in neutrals and bright colors accent outfits and added interest. Peep toe heels at the start of the show transitioned to pointy toes ankle strap wedges, lending a more evening look. The wedges were in hues that looked to be straight out of a Crayola crayon box. Take note: bright accessories will be a must for seasons to come.
