ANDREW GN Fall/Winter 2013 Prêt à Porter
A large focus of Andrew Gn’s FW13 collection was on outerwear. More than half the people we see everyday in the colder months of the year (while we are commuting or running errands) only see our coat and zero percent of the clothing we wear underneath. Maybe it’s time we take a cue from Gn and put as much effort into what we look like on the outside as we do on the inside. Quilted coats in silk are the luxurious cousins of the puffer coats we know from our childhood. With fur collars, decorative embroidery, and leather appliqués, fellow pedestrians will look twice when you walk past them. Fit and flaie coats get their shape and extra flair from belts whose buckles are adorned with semi-precious stones.
Blouses and silk A-line skirts get the same flair as the coats, with jeweled belts to define the waist. The same artistic embroidery as well as velvet and leather appliqués cover skirts in patterns reminiscent of fall leaves and architecture. The addition of leather on ladylike pieces exudes gothic romance. Jewel toned dresses and separates look positively rich in shimmering silk. Structured bags enhance the ladylike appeal of the collection while strappy shoes add a youthful edge. This collection shows just how glamorous everyday outerwear could be if it took inspiration from our inner wear.
