As many of you know, Alexandra Pullen was the first recipient of Fashiontographer’s Shoot for Change Scholarship at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. Last February, I invited Alexandra to a show during New York Fashion Week and it was then that I realized how much she enjoyed fashion.
So this season, I invited her to more shows and even her Mom was able to go to a show while she was visiting Alexandra and her brother. I should also note that Alexandra’s Mom was also a dancer at American Ballet Theatre. Because Alexandra genuinely enjoyed the fashion week experience, I asked her to attend more runway shows, conduct interviews, and take photos backstage with our fashion editor, Lais Lacher. In some ways, she was our “apprentice”.
To add on the fun, Alexandra decided to invite one of her friends to a show during fashion week. I didn’t know who she invited to that show until a few days later. It turned out she invited Isabel, who happened to be the second recipient of the Shoot for Change Scholarship — and neither Isabel nor Alexandra knew that Isabel was the recipient at that time. You can only imagine our surprise when we all found out what had happened.
One year ago, Alexandra started out as a Level 7 student at the JKO School at American Ballet Theatre. I am happy to share that Alexandra is now officially an Apprentice at American Ballet Theatre. I’ve known this for quite some time, but seeing her bio on ABT’s website was extremely exciting and filled me with pride.
Congratulations Alexandra!!
Alexandra (R) and Isabel (L) – the first and second recipients of the Shoot for Change scholarship at the JKO School at American Ballet Theatre. Isabel was extremely grateful when she found out about the scholarship — and was genuinely excited and happy to receive it. I’m glad that she is the recipient of the second SFC Scholarship.
