Reem Acra’s FW13 collection was nothing but rich — rich in color and rich in fabric. Scarlet lips and sheer black hosiery screamed femme fatale. Blacked out shades made these ladies look like the Matrix revisited. A sophisticated color palette of black, red, and white, Acra created a collection where daywear can easily be turned into evening wear. Asian inspired floral appliqués adorned several dresses. Nairu collars, yet another asian influence, could be seen on sleek, form fitting black dresses. If there was one thing this collection didn’t do — it would be to hide the female figure.
Fur in the form of coats and trim on dresses screamed luxury in a very on trend way. Add fur to any outfit this season for an instant update into 2014. For inspiration, look to the half black, half red, goats hair coat, where only a simple black dress underneath was needed. With a coat that fabulous, what else do you really need?
Leather was also liberally used here. Leather pants, both slim and baggy (keep an eye out for the baggy version which has been seen on several runways), and a leather skirt and gloves were seen throughout. A leather dress with nairu collar and twisted construction gave the piece loads of shape. Peekaboo dresses had you peeking through fishnet for a touch of skin. Beaded gowns had you covered in a way that’s old Hollywood chic, a time when sexy was about showing off your curves and not showing off ALL of your skin. A series of embroidered gowns finished the collection with chest baring embroidery covering enough to make these gowns “PG”. Reem Acra always delivers a cohesive collection and this was no exception. Exquisite. Exotic. Sophisticated.
