The weekend before I was about to photograph my first MBFW New York, I decided to rent a couple of movies to give me a sense of what I might expect: The September Issue and Valentino The Last Emperor. I considered it homework, like getting a scouting report. What I didn’t expect though was that it would get me so hyped up and excited about going to New York and covering the shows.
I would have never imagined that the films would be so well produced that I would consider them to be some of my favorites. Regardless if you’re a fan of fashion or not, it is just so interesting to learn about people who are at the top of their respective industries.
So what are the top favorites that everyone should see?
The September Issue – it’s everything you really need to know. Really.
Valentino The Last Emperor – everyone should see this amazing and beautiful film about one of the legends.
Bill Cunningham New York – again, you cannot underestimate the impact that this man had in the fashion industry. He’s taken photos of everybody, literally.
L’amour Fou – a gorgeous film and documentary about Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.
Coco Before Chanel – it’s not a documentary, but Audrey Tautou does play Coco Chanel and you get an idea of how she was like.
Also see:
A Single Man – not really a fashion film per se, but it was directed by Tom Ford.
The Devil Wears Prada – some argue that it’s not a documentary, but let’s face it, there has to be some truth in it.
Zoolander – definitely a fashion film by Tom Ford Ben Stiller.
