A far cry from the ultra feminine and airy dresses of Spring, Elie Saab’s Fall 2013 collection was dark and moody. The collection begins in black and navy, tuxedo inspired, structured dresses and cropped jackets. Fur coats and silk straight legged pants are full of attitude and shine. Feminine shapes, hard edges and 50 shades of black; let’s deem this the new power dressing. Navy, the new black when it comes to suiting, is known to exude a sense of sincerity, which takes a new turn with completely sheer blouses. Don’t press your luck with this trend at the office without wearing a navy cami underneath. Netting on dress bodices and tops create interesting peekaboo patterns that can be worn both day and night.

Onto the gowns, the Elie Saab we all know and love returns. Intricate lace combined with chiffon is equal parts skin covered and skin revealed. A thin leather belt adds structure to each gown. Next, Saab brings on the color with teal, eggplant, and buttercup yellow. While his typical lacy gowns get updated with this season’s favorites of peplums and box clutches, the focus is still on dresses perfect for your day job. Shift dresses, swing skirts, A-line, and quarter sleeves will forever be office classics for women. Bright colors keep them updated and stylish. Cage heels and booties add a certain edginess. Whether getting ready in the morning or getting ready at night, you’re covered… in more than just lace.
