The Carlos Miele fashion show began with a model poised at the start of the runway, backlit by red light, revealing only her silhouette and an airy caftan softly flowing as she postured. This scene set the atmosphere for the rest of the show of ethereality and sensuality.
The collection featured a lively array of evening gowns that all made their own individual statement. Miele took to heart his theme of a “Hallucinatory Jungle” with unlikely color and animal print combinations seen throughout the show: tiger print in oxidized yellow, giraffe print in phosphate blue, green zebra print, and finishing with acid yellow leopard print. As an added touch, all colors were of the Brazilian flag. The looks in more serious tones of white, black and beige almost seemed out of place in a collection that was so vibrant.
As the models walked down the runway the gowns and skirts had a lot of movement due to the use of lightweight fabrics like chiffon, charmeuse, organza, jersey and the occasional inclusion of fringe. Embroidery and turquoise stones were featured on belts, necklines, bags and shoes. Although the long evening gown reigned overall, other silhouettes included caftans, cocktails dresses, voluminous pants and long sleeved blouses. Layering of fabrics and handkerchief style hems were also trending. The models wore no jewelry and their hair was left down and straight so it could move freely. A look that encapsulated several of these motifs was the fifth look, a striking silk chiffon gown with diagonally overlapping blue giraffe print over yellow tiger print with beaded shoulder accents.
Carlos Miele’s S/S 2013 collection will be popular with confident women who like bold looks, including his loyal fans Eva Longoria, Camilla Belle, Paula Abdul and Vanessa Williams who will garner all of the attention when wearing one of his creations.
