Interviewing makeup artist Gordon E. has become one of the many pleasures of covering backstage at Fashion Week. He is gregarious and always has time for a quick chat. There is tremendous range seen in his work that shows that he truly can connect with the vision of the designer.

I spoke with him backstage at Osklen’s SS2013 show where he explained the makeup look:

The theme was “A Day in Rio”.  She is a Carioca woman who is obsessed with the beach. She lives the life of Rio, which is an outdoorsy life — an effortless, no fuss kind of beauty. We focus more on making the skin look skin care driven versus makeup driven — just a little of what is needed to make the skin look perfect. There is a strong highlight on top of the cheekbone so it looks sun kissed. We applied a lot of gloss on the eyelid and on the eyelashes. You know the look when you get out of the sea and your eyelashes are wet — that’s that concept — and the same with the eyebrows.

I am into this kind of brushed up wet looking brow lately. And then on the mouth we are just using a pink in the center of the mouth like she has been eating a popsicle. So very sort of sweet, innocent, pretty, and athletic look. It really goes a lot with the theme and the whole Osklen brand. Even when the clothes are funkier, it is still an effortless woman. It’s not a woman who sits and fusses. And with the makeup she just looks great. It’s a Brazilian thing, its genetic.
