On September 5th, the first night of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Fashiontographer attended the GBK & The Fashion Group International (FGI) New York Fashion Week Opening Party benefiting LIM Fashion Education Foundation (LIM FEF). The two-hour cocktail event took place at the GBK Celebrity Suites Style lounge in the Empire Hotel. The event was hosted by style icon and award winning costume designer and Sex and the City Stylist, Patricia Field. The event featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and gift bags from Hard Candy and Pilot Pens and more importantly raised thousands of dollars towards fashion students’ scholarships for the LIM FEF. Fashiontographer got the opportunity to mingle with and get a photo with Patricia Field. We also got the opportunity to speak with FGI’s president Margaret Hayes regarding her view on sustainable fashion as fad or future:

“I think sustainable fashion has a very important mission but it takes a while to develop a product that fits both the stylistic criteria as well as the sustainable criteria. Because there are things you can’t do right now say for example with bamboo to create high fashion. It will be certainly a mainstay proposition but the question is if it will ever reach the higher ends of fashion. I think the entire sustainable effort is obviously growing but it takes a lot to get it to grow at every level whether it be automotive or product development. In fashion it is a little different because you deal with taste levels not basic needs.”
