Jason Wu to become Artistic Director of BOSS Womenswear

Effective June 15, 2013 the New York based Fashion Designer Jason Wu will take up the newly established function of Artistic Director for BOSS Womenswear. The 30-year old Taiwan born, who founded his eponymous label JASON WU in 2007 in New York, will assume responsibility and creative direction for all product and image related aspects of the principal womenswear Ready-to-Wear and Accessory line in the HUGO BOSS Group.

In his role as Artistic Director, Jason Wu will oversee his team at the HUGO BOSS headquarters in Metzingen, Germany, and also open a design studio in New York. He will continue to grow his own Ready-to-Wear and Accessory collections.

The first BOSS Womenswear Collection under Jason Wu’s artistic direction will debut in New York during Pre-Fall 2014 and he will stage the first runway show during the New York Fall/Winter Fashion Week in February 2014.

“I have long been a fan of HUGO BOSS’ vast tradition and lineage in extraordinary tailoring. With the state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the HUGO BOSS design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear,” states Jason Wu.

“We are absolutely delighted to have an outstanding talent like Jason Wu on board,“ says Claus Dietrich Lahrs, CEO of HUGO BOSS. “This will generate a powerful and creative statement for BOSS Womenswear and show our commitment to focus even more on the female side of the brand.”

The Château de Versailles, emblem of Dior’s tradition, hosts a new tale which brings to life the Dior Fall 2013 collection.

The chateau and its park abound with well-kept secrets. The heart of the royal land conceals an extraordinary world of poetry and color: in the depth of its mysterious woods a secret garden blooms out of sight, inhabited by flower-women. From the Petit Trianon to the enchanted forest, Versailles becomes the picturesque backdrop of a dreamlike tale.

More than half of all immigrants are women. Though we all wear many hats; we speak with one voice for immigration reform that makes sure women and all families are fully included in the road to citizenship.

Fedoras4Fairness is a project of We Belong Together @womenbelong, a national campaign to demand common sense immigration reform that treats women and families fairly.

Spring 2013 couture photos courtesy of Eric Tibusch.

ERIC TIBUSCH

Location: Paris, France
Website: www.tibusch.com

When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

I had a breakthrough in June 2005; friends of mine told me that it was time for me to stop sharing and giving my ideas to the others and create for myself. Surrounded by faithful friends such as the owner of the LIDO (a famous Parisian cabaret), Chantal Clerico who opened me the doors of its cabaret, she took care of all the details and I presented my first collection, which was hailed by critics. The only schools I attended were fashion houses through which I passed. The first one who gave me my chance is Jean Paul Gaultier, I learned everything from him; it made me discover the Haute couture, which is my greatest passion today.

Can you take us through the process of what it’s like to do a collection

Haute Couture has a process of creation totally different from RTW, which is much easier to create even boring, sometimes. While couture request casts, sketches with very specific figures. I do things by myself I work with “my ten fingers.” It is important for me to transmit only things I can do.

What advice would you give to a designer who’s just starting out?

I will not change anything of my route, the mistakes I’ve done makes me what I am today. The advice I can give to young designers is the following one: “If you do this job for the glitz and glamour, do not do it. But if you do it because you are passionate about it, in a trance when you create templates then, then yes. It’s a tough job where there is no privacy. You should be well surrounded, with trusted people, especially for finance — but also people working in the same world as you and who can understand you.”

What are your thoughts about the fashion in Paris as it compares to other cities around the world?

According to me, Paris is and remains unconditionally the capital of fashion and creativity. New York and Milan are in my eyes the cities of the fashion « business » week. London is apart; like a fashion UFO, but has the potential to one day become the world capital of menswear. Moreover, as you know, there have been many French designers who have expatriated themselves. It is true that it is easier to succeed abroad. What a pity, because the inspiration is strong, great designers are talented but it is very difficult, especially for a French one. As stated so well the french saying: “No man is a prophet in his own country.”

What inspires you to do what you do and what inspires you to keep doing it?

There is no creator or designer who inspires me in particular. Except the admiration that I have for the amazing designer, Claude Montana. He is the only one who has won two years in a row the prestigious price “dé d’or.” Twenty years ago, he had the talent and the blueprint of perfection compared to what we see today.

My source of inspiration and renewal is and will remain the cinema industry; all my collections are derived from films that have marked me. It is a passion that I share with fashion. My favorite director is Tim Burton, his world is strange and unreal; both poetic and fantastic — just fascinating. I am the kind of person, unable to tell you the story of a film, but when the images are moving, I can imagine a complete collection in the span of 5 minutes.

My muses (….), including Marlene Dietrich, an eternal source of inspiration — she breathed so much freedom to women — she is a very beautiful female ambassador.

Then Alexandra Mas, who is a talented painter and artist. And finally the model Marie N’Dao, a beautiful African beauty that inspires me miscegenation, this is the future; the mixing gives the most beautiful things.
