Tell us about your work.
My work consists of 6 month long projects which begin with inspiration, mood boards and a theme! The whole process involves fabric sourcing, finding the best supplier, ordering, pattern cutting, toiling, producing the final garments, planning, organising and presenting at the show!
What was the experience like to show your collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin?
At the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin, we did not have a runway production, rather our own studio show in which we had our Collection presented on models that were placed strategically throughout the room. Therefore, at the casting, we looked for models that were confident and prepared to move their bodies. When a model tries on a particular outfit and it just works perfectly, it’s so exciting for everyone!!!
What advice would you give to someone who is just beginning their career in fashion design?
Basically I have found you need patience and a lot of it! It takes a lot of commitment and devotion to find your place in the industry, just like with everything! But I love every moment of it! I love being able to express myself in my own unique and creative way and being able to present this to the world through my collections. It is important to trust yourself and your own ideas… believe in your own creativeness and don’t let the opinions of others in your life or in the industry get you down.
What are some of the biggest differences you see in terms of fashion and style in the United States as compared to Europe?
Because of the fact that fashion is always pretty much inspired by culture, tradition, and society you can find a bigger variety of fashion trends and styles in Europe.
What inspires you to do what you do and what inspires you to keep doing it?
I love embellishment and being able to express my creativity through fabrics, patterns, colour and texture! It’s very inspiring for me when others are able to find and express their creative side through clothing and fashion over and over again.
